AS A REMINDER: Our company’s continued success results in the company becoming more and more competitive. Auditions are to be taken very seriously as they prepare students for what they will be experiencing in a competitive atmosphere should they become a member of the Miami Dance Company for 2023-2024. There is NO GUARANTEE that a student will make it to the team for the new season because of previous year(s) on the team. Auditions are designed to test each student’s technical and performance ability in a professional setting. Auditions allow for the faculty to view the students individually and as a group in order to properly place them in upcoming dances (according to how they perform the given choreography at auditions). Also, as lyrical, jazz & contemporary require strong technique, we will be basing placement in lyrical, jazz, & contemporary routines off technical performance. Students need to be able to pick up choreography correctly and quickly, as well as being able to perform in unison with the group. All these factors play a major role in deciding placement for students in new dances. 

*** If your child is not able to make it to one of the formal audition dates, they must participate in one of the summer training intensive weeks. THESE ARE THE ONLY TWO WAYS TO AUDITION FOR THE MIAMI DANCE COMPANY 2023 – 2024 COMPETITION TEAM. NO PRIVATE AUDITIONS WILL BE HELD THIS YEAR AS WE’RE OFFERING TWO DIFFERENT DATES 

Following auditions, there will be a MANDATORY parent meeting on Wednesday, July 26th, 2023 for all students who have been selected for the 2023-2024 team. We will be going over everything that is expected of the student and parents of the company; therefore, ALL PARENTS (mother, father, step-mother, & step-father) that are involved in the student’s funding, transportation, involvement, and commitment must attend. Also, as previously stated in the company packet from the beginning of the year, students who make the company for the new season are required to participate in a 2-week MANDATORY CHOREOGRAPHY INTENSIVE that will take place during the day and afternoon with an hour break for lunch. Choreography intensives will be held Monday – Friday from August 7th – August 20th. Select prices and an exact schedule for the 2-week choreography intensive are TBA. All students must be present MONDAY – SUNDAY of both weeks! This meeting is where we will be explaining (in detail) what is expected of our competitive students and parents. Furthermore, it is mandatory to take the assigned core classes throughout the year apart from scheduled choreography and rehearsal times. These core classes are meant to give students a solid foundation of technique and skill before learning new choreography. 

Students must audition for the category in which their age will fall. All ages are as of January 1st, 2024. Example: if you are currently 11, but will be 12 by January 1st 2024, you must audition for Teen Company (ages 12-14 years old). Placement in Mini, Junior, Teen, & Senior will be left to the judges and teachers. If a dancer is a teen, he or she may be placed in junior dances and vice versa. Students must arrive with hair slicked back in a bun, black sports bra, and black briefs or booty shorts. Presentation is of the utmost importance. Schedule is on next page & the same for both audition dates.

As our company grows, we are at a point where we must enforce the bigger groups that we compete. With that being said, the following groups will be mandatory next year if participating for the Miami Dance Company team. 

  • MINI/JUNIOR JAZZ LINE  
  • TEEN/SENIOR OPEN LINE 
  • PRODUCTION  
  • TEEN/SENIOR HIP-HOP LINE – ALL teens/seniors must audition in the hip-hop portion of the audition. If selected for the group, they must participate. We have officialy signed with “The Lab” winners of NBC’s World Of Dance 2018 & choreographer of Las Vegas Nevada Dance Team national championship dance. We believe that hip-hop is a crucial part in their training and want to take the next step to excel their hip-hop training. – ALL DANCERS SELECTED IN THIS PIECE MUST BE AVAILABLE THE ENTIRE TWO WEEK INTENSIVE. WE’RE FLYING THE CHOREOGRAPHERS DOWN AT THAT TIME & THEY WILL SET THE ENTIRE PIECE. 
  • PETITE/MINI TAP LINE – ALL new company members from 5 years old – 8 years old MUST participate in tap. Tap will be one of our core classes for the next generation!
